Christa Construction is proud to serve as General Contractor for the Harbor House at the YWCA, a two-phase redevelopment that will expand and modernize supportive housing on the YWCA NorthEastern NY campus in Schenectady’s historic Stockade District. In partnership with Xenolith Partners and the YWCA, this transformative project will deliver a total of 96 permanent supportive housing units.

Phase One focuses on the substantial rehabilitation of an existing three-story YWCA residential building. Christa Construction is modernizing 42 units through a full adaptive-reuse approach that includes the addition of in-unit bathrooms, updates to building systems, interior reconfiguration of underutilized space, and upgrades to finishes and safety infrastructure.

These improvements are designed to enhance privacy, comfort, and long-term functionality while maintaining the building’s critical role as a safe, stable housing resource for women in the community.

Phase Two will deliver a brand-new, four-story, 54-unit supportive housing building on the YWCA campus. Designed using trauma-informed principles, the building features abundant natural light, layered private and communal spaces, and an even distribution of supportive service areas across all floors. The unit mix includes primarily studios for individuals, along with two-bedroom layouts for small families.

The new building is situated within a highly walkable neighborhood close to public transit, employment, education, and essential services, supporting long-term resident stability and independence.

Over an anticipated 24-month construction period, Christa Construction is committed to delivering high-quality, durable housing that advances the YWCA’s mission and strengthens the supportive housing network across the Capital Region.
