The site that once housed the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad has been transformed into the new home of DePaul’s Pan-American Square Apartments. Totaling 174k square feet, this 150-unit apartment complex stands as a testament to DePaul’s mission to provide housing for communities in need. Pan-American Square consists of three 50-unit buildings connected by one story walkways with landscaped green spaces throughout.
The Pan-American Square Apartments are unique in their approach to providing support for their residents, offering more amenities than are typically found in affordable housing. Each room comes equipped with a full kitchen and range, refrigerator and microwave, a wall mounted flat screen tv, and in unit storage. Heat, air conditioning, hot water and electricity are included in each room’s rent.
Campus amenities include lounges on each floor, access to computers, community spaces, as well as a commercial kitchen that prepares meals for those enrolled in supportive services. Staff is always present throughout the Pan-American Square complex for security and resident convenience. Such emphasis on service-enriched common spaces and a robust staffing plan underscores DePaul’s focus on resident health, safety, empowerment, and community-building.
Christa worked diligently with DePaul and the design teams to achieve certifications from various sustainability programs. Pan-American Square has been recognized for PHIUS+ 2018 Source Zero, EPA Energy Star and Indoor AirPlus, DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes, and the HCR Clean Energy Incentive.
