The three-story, 52,500 square foot building features 51 studio, one– and two-bedroom units, 25 of which are set aside as supportive housing for individuals requiring services to live independently in the community. The remaining units are committed to affordable housing. The Joseph L. Allen Apartments are part of the revitalization of Schenectady’s Hamilton Hill neighborhood to provide homes for people in need of quality affordable housing.
All apartments feature fully-equipped kitchens with a range/refrigerator and microwave, a wall-mounted TV including basic cable service and in-unit storage. The project incorporates “green” standards, including high-efficiency furnaces and condensing units for heating and cooling. Wi-Fi access is available throughout the building alongside a community room and lounges for everyone to enjoy.
The apartments are named in honor of Schenectady’s first African-American City Councilman, Joseph L. Allen, a beloved and revered community member. His family still resides in the community today and the apartments are a reminder of his lasting impact on the community. The Joseph L. Allen Apartments provide Schenectady residents with a safe, comfortable and affordable place that they can be proud to call home.
