Schenectady, NY (February 25, 2026) – Community leaders, project partners, and local stakeholders gathered today to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony of the Harbor House at the YWCA, a transformative supportive housing development located on the YWCA Northeastern Campus in Schenectady.

As the General Contractor, Christa Construction will be responsible for the execution of both the new construction and the rehabilitation components of this multi-phase, multi-building project. Once complete, Harbor House at the YWCA will provide 96 units of supportive housing for the community. This project represents a meaningful investment in long-term housing stability and community infrastructure that is addressing critical housing needs in the Schenectady community.

Scope of Work and Construction Overview

The Harbor House project will include the construction of a new four-story residential building, as well as the substantial rehabilitation of an existing structure on the YWCA Campus. Christa Construction will manage all on-site construction activities including site preparation, structural work, interior buildout, and coordination of construction trades and project teams.

This project aims to replace outdated residential conditions with fully self-contained apartment units, each with private bathrooms, upgraded mechanical systems, and improved accessibility. Construction efforts will be focused on delivering durable, high-quality living spaces that support resident health and long-term living.

Building with Care and Coordination

Projects such as the Harbor House at the YWCA require careful planning and coordination due to many different factors. Christa Construction is working closely with our project partners to sequence work efficiently while prioritizing safety, quality control, and minimal disruption to surrounding businesses and residences.

The Harbor House will incorporate trauma informed principles in its design, such as access to natural light and thoughtfully designed community spaces. These considerations will be integrated throughout the project through the close collaboration between our construction and design teams.
